Lone Oak Veterinary Clinic provides comprehensive reproductive services for both small and large animals. Our doctors can perform pre-breeding exams and testing, artificial insemination, pregnancy determination, and cesarean sections.
Things to consider before breeding your pet:
- You must carefully consider each animal’s pedigree for compatibility.
- You must make sure that both animals are free from brucellosis. Brucellosis causes eventual sterility in both male and female animals and can cause the litter to be aborted or die shortly after birth.
- Make sure the female is up-to-date with her vaccinations, medications, and shots before she is bred. She will also require supplementary food during the last three weeks of the pregnancy.
- Animals can have miscarriages. Illness, diseases, or infestations can be picked up during a pregnancy and can affect the litter.
